Once you have downloaded them, how do you proceed? Well this article will go into details on how to get the maximum benefits from the CBSE sample papers.

A common mistake students make while solving the sample papers is that they do many sample papers of different subjects all at once. This is to be avoided.

First, what you must do is pick a subject and analyze its sample paper. Almost every sample paper of CBSE has a chapter wise breakdown or marks distribution.

You should coordinate your studies taking this breakdown as a base level.

It is recommended that you do sample papers of one subject together, but at intervals. For example, if you want to prepare for Accountancy, you should do all its sample papers giving 2-3 days gap. This way, you can solve all the sample papers given by CBSE (Usually 2 or 3) in a week or two.

If you do this regularly with all the subjects, you would be thorough with all the sample papers in your curriculum in about a month.

After you have reached this stage, you should pick a day (preferably Sunday or any holiday) and try and do a bunch of sample papers (2-3) of a particular subject. See how you perform and average the marks obtained and repeat the whole process on another day.

You will notice that you see a definitive increase in your performance.

Class 12 Biology Project

October 22, 2009 by cbsezone · Leave a Comment
Filed under: Projects, Student Questions

We were contacted by Ankit Bhatia, a student of Class 12, who requested we write something on the biology project which he (and many other students) have to submit for their exams.

Let us first take a look at what is required. Taken from CBSE’s Senior School Curriculum Vol 1, Page 103

Practicals
1. Experiments and spotting 20 marks
2. Record of one investigatory project and Viva based on the project 5 marks
3. Class record and Viva based on experiments 5 marks

We are going to discuss the investigatory project.

First of all, remember that it 5 marks which is inclusive of viva. So, we strongly suggest everyone not to copy the project from anywhere, because it would be counterproductive. You should know your project in and out, so that no matter what the examiner asks you, you should be able to answer him/her pretty well.

Now, one of the best ways to find a suitable biology project would be to ask seniors and your teachers in school. Find out who scored well in the previous examinations, and if possible seek help. He/She and your teachers will be able to guide you in a very specific way (Because different schools have different ways to grade projects).

The most important thing, your project should include a case study because it not only makes your project more readable, but also shows that you took out time to prepare it. The case study should be as detailed as possible.

Now, where can you get a Case Study? Just go into any hospital and ask for a case study of a particular disease and get it photocopied. If possible, also seek out a doctor in your city who is a specialist in that disease and get his opinion/notes on the subject.

Here are a few topics to give you an idea (While these projects are good too, we recommend you check with your teachers and senior students as to the pattern of projects your school follows)

If you are preparing the project on a disease write about its prevention, medication and cure too.

  1. A study on HIV Aids – Talk about the disease, the virus – go in details. Include a Case Study.
  2. How Hair Colors and Dyes Affect your hair – Conduct experiments on how different hair colors and dyes affect hair. Point out the difference between ammonia included and ammonia free hair dyes. Get advise from your teacher as to how to conduct the experiment.
  3. How Cigarettes are harmful – Do tests on various tobacco products and list out their harmful effects. Do a Case Study.
  4. Cancer – Do a general overview first, then choose a particular cancer and write in detail. Do a Case Study.
  5. Pulmonary Tuberculosis – Explain the disease. Do a Case Study.
  6. Noise Pollution and its effect on ears – Study and show how ears react to different decibels of sound. What sound levels are acceptable? Do a case study, if possible.
  7. Eye Cataract – Explain the disease and do a case study.
  8. Ovarian Cyst – Explain the disease and do a case study.
  9. Blood - Explain the different components in detail. Pick a disease related to it and do a case study.
  10. Tea leaves/Coffee addiction – Explain how tea leaves/coffee beans cause addiction and their effects. Do a filter test. If possible, do a case study.
  11. DNA Fragments used in forensics – Explain how DNA fragments help solving crime. Do a case study.

We do recommend that you talk to your teacher in detail about the project you choose and also to a senior student.

Here are a few more tips to secure the extra marks -

  • Please make sure you write the project yourself (this fetches you extra marks), rather than a print out.
  • A good project (including case study) should consist of 20+ pages.
  • Paste as many diagrams and photographs regarding the topic as possible. Make it look appealing.
  • Make sure that you understand the project really well, because you will need to score good on the viva too. A great project and a poor viva will spoil the show.
  • Think 5-10 questions about your project, which you think the examiner can ask you and prepare them well.

Well, these are our recommendations. If there are any further questions, you can leave in the comments or contact us through the contact page. We hope this helped you :)

Good luck with the projects!

Festivals and Studies

October 16, 2009 by cbsezone · Leave a Comment
Filed under: Study Tips

With Diwali just round the corner, we though it might be a good idea to discuss something which almost every Indian student faces. Most of the exams, by some luck, always occur near some or the other festival. This may be because there are many festivals in India, or most of the major ones happen quarterly which clashes with the exam schedule.

Now, since exams are something which you can not afford to take lightly, you also can not ignore the religious and social significance of the festivals. So, it is up to the student to find out the middle way.

Let us take an example and see the possible situations. Consider a student named X, okay lets name it something different (we are all tired of X in mathematics :P ). Lets name him Rohan.

Now, Rohan has his half-yearly exams just after Diwali holidays. But, Diwali is an occasion which is celebrated with a lot of enthusiasm in his family. What should he do?

There are three possible solutions, only one of them being the best.

Solution 1 –  Forget about studies, and celebrate Diwali.
Outcome – The family is very happy that he participated in Diwali. But, he gets very low marks in his examination and gets a good scolding from his parents.

Solution 2 – Forget about Diwali, and start studying.
Outcome – While he gets good marks, but he and his family is not happy on the fact that he couldn’t celebrate the festival with his family.

Solution 3 – He celebrates Diwali and studies too.
Outcome – He gets good marks and doesn’t even miss the festival.

Now, I am sure you are wondering how can he do both? How can he study and celebrate the festival too?

Here are a few tips which will help you do the exact thing. Follow them and you won’t have to choose between the two.

  • Plan it out – Most of the festivals occur during a particular time of day. Diwali for example start at 5-6 pm. So, you are free during the day. We know that most of you have to help their families during preparation. We advise you to do this after lunch. This gives you the full morning to study. Obviously, you might have to wake up a little early, but – No pain, No Gain.
  • Do not watch television! Even though a lot of great programs may come on it, you should not watch the television at all during festivals. As it is you have to spend a lot of time, do not increase this by watching a 2 hour show with your family. I am sure your families would be more than happy to see you studying.
  • Know when to stop – You do not have to burst crackers for four hours to celebrate Diwali. Don’t forget that you are short on time.
  • Prepare beforehand – It is kind of a stupid tip to tell you now. But, beforehand preparation gives you the edge. You do not have to study the whole course in the last day. Just a revision would work and you can manage the revision more efficiently.

These were just a few tips from us to help you manage your studies with the festivities around you. Try and follow them and you will not be worried during the fun times.

Study on folks! And we almost forgot… Have a very happy and a safe Diwali.

Keep your teachers happy

October 12, 2009 by cbsezone · 3 Comments

“Keep your teachers happy” – that will be the new phrase on every parent’s mouth very soon. CBSE might have set sparks to another controversy with their new reform decision.

If the academics and the CCE (Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation) wasn’t enough, CBSE will not be testing students on their attitude in school. Yes, you read that correct. Students will be graded on their attitude towards teachers, fellow students, programs organized by the school and their general behavior.

The reactions have been generally skeptical, since we all know its barely possible for one teacher to keep more than fifty students disciplined. And this system also may lead to bias. But, if schools can come up with a scientific way / un-biased way, then maybe this might work well.

Lets hope this reform does not backfire.

What is your reaction to this? Do you as a student like it? Mention in the comments or send it to us via contact us page.
