Cut the lectures, let them speak and evolve – CBSE’s new mantra
CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) is now going to reform their existing education system by cutting down the teacher-talking time and advised them to utilize that time for the facilitation of students. This curriculum will be applied for class IX and X. The board has asked to concentrate on classroom interaction among the students, query round during the discussion to encourage the pupils to take participate, and to motivate their ideas and justify their views.
Teachers have been advised to talk less in class and try to adopt the constructive approach for the student’s development and learning. Neera Chopra, a consultant for education in Delhi says that these guidelines will give chance to teachers to adopt new teaching methods but some schools still advocate their existing teaching styles. Some of the surveys show that children are able to learn only 60% from the textbooks and they feel very bore with the teacher’s current teaching pattern. The aim of the teacher should be to guide the students to go to right place for the information not by giving them examples from the textbooks.
Despite of all the benefits these guidelines seem to break several barriers by focusing on the doing which makes the rote learning infeasible. There is also chance of loss of spontaneity of teachers and their tendency to innovate the students in the classroom. These instructions must be taken as structures and not guidelines otherwise the creativity of teachers will lost. These instructions should be taken as just like a structure which a teacher can frame their pedagogy upon.

Keep your teachers happy
“Keep your teachers happy” – that will be the new phrase on every parent’s mouth very soon. CBSE might have set sparks to another controversy with their new reform decision.
If the academics and the CCE (Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation) wasn’t enough, CBSE will not be testing students on their attitude in school. Yes, you read that correct. Students will be graded on their attitude towards teachers, fellow students, programs organized by the school and their general behavior.
The reactions have been generally skeptical, since we all know its barely possible for one teacher to keep more than fifty students disciplined. And this system also may lead to bias. But, if schools can come up with a scientific way / un-biased way, then maybe this might work well.
Lets hope this reform does not backfire.
